TODAY’S FREE SHORT STORY:

Wedding at Turkey Run by Liz Flaherty

Jenny and Zeke are united by their suspicions when her grandmother and his grandfather decide to get married at Turkey Run State Park over the Thanksgiving weekend. Before the weekend and the wedding are over, they are united by much more.

Read it HERE!

Liz Flaherty was a little nervous about retiring from her day job, but making quilts, more family time, traveling at the mere mention of why don’t we go…I and becoming a Harlequin Heartwarming author have made the past years more fun and exciting than she could ever have imagined.

The one that got away

Could Kate Rafael’s day get any worse? First she lost her job, then her house burned down and now her ex is back in town. Apparently, Ben McGuffey’s taking a break from being a big-city doctor to help at his family’s tavern and reassess the choices he’s made for his career.

Ben ends up giving Kate a hand…then giving her kisses…and finally, a second chance. But when a local teenager shows them both a glimpse of what it means to be a family, Ben wonders if having kids in small-town Vermont would clash with his ambitions. Or can he truly come home again…to Kate?

Guest post:

I love state parks. Any state—I’m not picky. So when some writer friends and I decided to have a retreat last May, we trekked to Turkey Run in southwest Indiana. We brainstormed, laughed a lot, and had a running commentary on the Writer’s Lot in Life (all agreeing that for the most part, it’s a pretty cool Lot). We ate more than we should, drank some wine, and walked it off on the beautiful hiking trails in the park. (Nan Reinhardt and I got lost, but that’s a whole other story.) There were eight of us, but Nan’s cell phone was the only one that had reception. Occasionally one of the other phones would work if we did things like hold up one foot and face east, but mostly we did without.

When the opportunity to write this story came up, I thought, what better place for a Thanksgiving romance than in Turkey Run State Park. The “what in the world is this all about?” feeling when my phone bellied up gave birth to Jenny and Zeke’s first meeting. After that, the Writer’s Lot in Life—which is nothing more than thinking “what if…” every time you turn around—took over, resulting in Wedding at Turkey Run.
