CJ Ellisson The Hunt & Vampire Vacation tour & Surprise Giveaway

Please help me welcome CJ to the blog today. She is so funny to talk with, a great sense of humor who know’s who she is and wants to be. She has a surprise giveaway at the end of the interview so do not miss out.

Also after the interview there are some excerpts .

Babs: Have you always wanted to be a writer?

C.J.: Nope! I “found” this new career at the age of 38. Pretty damn cool when I think about it. I count myself lucky to have discovered my true calling so late in life. Prior to that I was a business whiz in banking and real estate. Boring, but it easily paid the bills.

Babs: What would you like your readers to get out of the V V Inn series?

C.J.: That the romance and adventure doesn’t end when the characters get married! I was tired of reading heroines with messed up love-lives and weak, wishy-washy guys. Or worse, alpha-males who beat on their chest and subdue their woman with control and arrogance. “You must do as I say, although I won’t tell you why.” The repeated trust issues done over and over again in books seem like plot devices after a while because they are.

I don’t know about the average reader, but I certainly didn’t date overbearing men in real life, and I don’t like reading about them anymore.

Aren’t real men who act normal more likely to fall into a woman’s life? I’d like to read about real people, so I created some. Granted, I made most of them paranormal just because the fantasy is so damn fun I couldn’t resist!

Babs: Do you have a current project in the works?

C.J.: LOL! Several right now. There’s no moss on me ;-)

1) I’m working on BIG GAME, book three in the V V Inn series.

2) I’m re-releasing the entire series this summer de-sexified for the high-YA audience of 18-22. They think they like sex in their books until they read my stuff, then they realize they haven’t really read sexy vamps yet! The books will include a lot of original graphic art from two talented artists, who will also do the new covers.

3) I promised my kids a middle-grade contemporary fantasy book, which is in the works right now. It’s called Black is for Lies and follows two children who meet at a campground. They solve a small mystery and become fast friends. It has some paranormal/fantasy aspects as well, simply because that’s what my kids wanted.

4) I’ve recently contacted an artist about a children’s series I’d like to do, based on the fluffy black cat in our house named Sasuke.

Babs: Do you have a ritual when you are writing?  ie coffee, music, food etc

C.J.: Not really, although starting one might help the current slump I’m in! I’ve found that a messy house cluttered with piles of laundry is a huge deterrent for me. I’m not a clean freak, but I do need the house to reflect a milder form of chaos if I plan to get anything done… if not the huge tasks seem to loom over me and squash the creativity right out of me.

Babs: Hobbies outside of writing?

I like to garden, cook, read, go hiking when my rheumatoid arthritis allows me, walk my dogs, and play games with my kids. I’ve been battling some illnesses for years and find that the care I have to do daily to try and regain my health is more time consuming than I bargained for. If you have good health, don’t take it for granted. It’s unreal how much your life changes when your health takes a downward slide for any length of time.

Babs: What book or books are you currently reading?

C.J.: I’m involved in several book clubs, plus I read for work and my own interests. The book club title for my local friends this session is Suburgatory, by Linda E. Keenan. It’s funny, but I can only read it in short bursts. The writing is very clever and can sometimes be too much to absorb in one sitting.

I just started Portia De Costa’s BDSM, and Zombies, and Ménage.. Oh my!  last night. It’s a collection of shorts and novelettes and I like it – hot, funny, and a little over the top. I also read the short story from Danielle Ravencroft, A Trace of Love, at the gym yesterday. It was sweet and steamy in all the right places. Quick read and I hope to see more from this author.

I just finished editing Danielle Gavan’s holiday novelette, The Lists, which is a really fun take on Santa’s elves. Great for some light holiday reading with hot nookie.

Yikes, I just realized all of the last books I listed are erotic. I swear, I do read other stuff. I just finished Pale Demon, by Kim Harrison, over the holiday weekend and loved it! She’s going in a new direction with her main character and I think she did an excellent job with it.

Babs: If you could be one character from one of your books who would it be?

C.J.: Ahh… readers who follow me on facebook could probably answer this one for you! I started writing to escape my health problems and the depression they were leading to. I never expected anyone would like what I wrote, so I crafted the heroine into a character I dreamed of being: An all-powerful, sexy vampire who never gets sick.

Think of all you could do and learn without the frailty of the human body to hold you back. Granted, sucking blood and avoiding the sun doesn’t sound too appealing, but I do the second one already to avoid wrinkles ;-)

Babs: Favorite drink?

C.J.: Magner’s. It’s a hard cider from Ireland. Elixir of the Gods. I swear.

Babs: What is your favorite ice cream?

C.J.: Rocky Road – chocolate chunks, nuts, marshmallow, and chocolate ice cream… yum…

Babs: What is your favorite food?

C.J.: Oh damn, pick one? I love my food, as my ass and cellulite can attest.

Hmm… I’d say chocolate, but that’s more of a dessert, right? I have mashed potatoes like twice a week and still am never tired of them… but that’s a side dish.

If you’d asked me before I was diagnosed with Celiac’s I would have yelled “pizza” at the top of my lungs… so runner up would probably be filet mignon cooked medium rare… or chicken parm (gluten free) served over yummy gluten free pasta with a meat sauce… *drool*

Babs: Anything else you would like to add?  (links to any blogs/sites to follow etc)

C.J.: Thanks for having me here today, Babs! The interview was fun and I hope to get a chance to chat with some of your readers today.

Now for some goodies:

Excerpt from The Hunt:

Chapter One

As I lie here, curled around my husband’s firm body, I begin to wonder: Am I crazy? What in the hell made me think organizing a hunt, here at our hotel, would be a good idea? Over a dozen supernatural predators are flying in from all over the world; ones who’ve paid an exorbitant price for the privilege of removing their everyday masks and killing one of their own kind. I must be crazy. I have a feeling this week is going to turn out to be more than any of us bargained for. Self-doubt plagues me as I rise from the warmth of the bed and stroll, naked, to

my closet. The glow of the artificial landscape lighting beams in through the windows. The changing gradient indicates it’s probably midday here above the Arctic Circle. Part of my nervous edge could be associated with learning to trust the new members of our seethe. While the vampires appear upfront and honest—as much as a pack of bloodsuckers can be—my old habits of distrust have served me well over the years. The two months since November’s tracking and killing of Ivan have been a trial for me, this upcoming hunt week has been a long time in the planning, but I don’t have to like it. Having anyone from the Tribunal of Ancients on our property sucks, especially when I have no idea who they’re sending. Grabbing the clothes I set out in the wee hours of the morning, I head to the shower in our private suite. The hot water cascading over me fills my mind with horrible memories of my own first hunt. My seethe wore cloth-lined, silver skullcaps to thwart my unique vamp-to-vamp mind-control abilities. They orchestrated the hunt to rid themselves of their “pet” manipulator. What started for the group as demented undead fun, ended with a young, redheaded vampire surprising them all with her ability to kill ruthlessly and without remorse. The blood of my seethe-mates once covered my body, as the water does now. Later, I stacked their headless corpses in our old farmhouse before setting the structure on fire. Killing that sick group was the least I could do to avenge the murders of my first and second husbands. Considering all I’d been through under their rule for twenty-six years, I let the bastards off easy. Thankfully, even a semi-mortal vampire can only die once—if it’s done right. The sound of Rafe stirring in the next room pulls me out of my dark thoughts and tells me he’s getting up as well. “Good morning, sleepyhead,” I call out over the noise of the water. “Get enough rest?” “You mean after you ravaged me for hours? Oh yeah, I slept pretty damn sound.”

Blurb for book one, Vampire Vacation

Meet Vivian. She’s a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot—a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true. Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests. Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn’t easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect? Warning: This book contains some explicit sex scenes, intended for mature readers only.

Excerpt from Vampire Vacation

Chapter One

I open the door to find a body at my feet. The rich smell of blood causes my canines to lengthen. Reaching out in the darkness, I flip on the switches. Light comes on across the room, illuminating the dead guy lying face down in front of me. The whole scene makes me wish I’d stayed in bed today, curled up next to my warm husband. “Crap, look at the rug.”

Okay, out loud that sounds rather dispassionate. Whoever this poor stiff is, he’s dead. I’m the one left with a huge mess on my hands and guests arriving within the hour. Good thing I caught this before one of the maids did. Their screams from the last time were a devil to calm down. Reaching out with my mind, I connect with my husband in a soft electrical tingle of sensation. Rafe? There’s a dead guy in suite six. We’ve got to move fast before the next group arrives. Rafe’s rugged face appears in my head. My extended consciousness lets me see the room around him as well as hear his thoughts. He’s leaning against the sink in our private kitchen, wearing a robe, a steaming mug of coffee in his hand. Does it look like an accidental overfeeding? His mental voice sounds incredulous. We haven’t had one of those in years. No, there’s way too much blood. Can you come up here and help me? Sure, Dria. I’m fresh out of the showergive me a couple minutes. I step over the body and into the room, closing the door behind me with a soft snick of the catch. I’d rather not have the guests get a whiff of this mess. Some of them would probably think we did it on purpose for “ambience”. But others might not. Walking over to the bench at the end of the bed, I sit then look around the suite. A king-size bed, neatly made, gleaming dark furniture and lush brocade fabrics greet me. Nothing but the corpse looks out of place. The stark white face turned toward me doesn’t look familiar. I’m sure he isn’t a mate of one of the vampire masters staying here; I make it a point to meet all of them when they arrive. Examining his brown hair and twenty-something face, I don’t recognize him as a vampire servant either. Not many have come to stay with the current crop of undead we’ve got right now. Who else? The blood arouses my basic vampire needs while confusing my train of thought. I concentrate, trying to clear my head. Think, dammit, think!

Could he be a companion? A lot of masters bring “food” with them. Being a full-service hotel we can provide all the needs of our guests, but some still insist on BYOB. His oxford shirt and ragged jeans rule him out as an employee. Unless he’s an off-duty new hire I’m unaware of. Rafe, have we hired anyone new? Not in at least a month. You’ve met everyone. My husband hesitates for a moment. Send me his face and I’ll let you know if he looks familiar. I concentrate to project the image from my mind to Rafe’s. My strong ability enables me to share the entire experience with him if I wish. I could send the metallic smell filling the air, the sticky congealing blood pooled about the victim’s head, or the dark essence of death that lingers after a vicious kill, but choose to limit it only to the image. No, I don’t recognize him either, Rafe confirms. Damn, Tommy’s flagging me down. Give me a minute and I’ll be right up. Hurry, please. We’ve got guests coming in, I glance down at my ever-present watch, forty-five minutes!

Eden Cooks Club

Who would have thought that Eden Fantasys has a section called Eden Cooks.  I would have not believed it myself if I had not gone and looked.  They share a lot of recipes good recipes like this one:

**One of the recipes that caught my eye was posted by chilipepper.  This recipe is not mine by all means give credit to Chilipepper.

One of our better sellers was the Wine Cake, a doctored-up mix of sinfully rich ingredients. I don’t know who started making it or where they got the recipe, but it became synonymous with the diner around the holidays.

Wine Cake

3 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 pkg white cake mix
1 pkg instant vanilla pudding mix
1 tsp nutmeg
3/4 c vegetable oil
3/4 c wine*
4 eggs

*Suggested wine is the cheap, strong red plonk sold in the glass jugs, preferably a merlot-type

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix sugar and cinnamon together.
Grease or apply cooking spray to inside of bundt pan.
Shake cinnamon-sugar mixture around inside of pan to coat all sides; any leftover should be disposed of.
Mix the rest of the ingredients together (cake mix, pudding mix, nutmeg, oil, wine, and eggs) with mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes.
Pour batter into bundt pan.
Bake in oven for 50 minutes. Check to see if done by toothpick method.
Remove from oven and rest in pan for 10 minutes.
Turn out onto plate and dust with powdered sugar when completely cool.

This cake smells like eggnog while baking. The cinnamon-sugar coating gives it a nice crust, although it can be made without the cinnamon-sugar coating if you prefer a regular cake crust.

There is also a ‘non-alcoholic’ version that I had personally made (due to my ex-husband being against alcohol in the house, period). Replace the wine with 3/4 cup fresh orange juice and the nutmeg with 1 teaspoon grated orange peel. The orange version is very good with a powdered sugar glaze instead of the sugar dusting.

** Recipe by Chilipepper

One Stop Christmas Hop

Lets thank Mamto3blessings for hosting this great giveaway hop

Each blog below has prizes valued at $25.00 or more.

Welcome from the blog hop I am the last one #76 glad you have stopped by.

I would like to thank my sponsor Zoobies Blanket Pets for allowing me to give one of the blanket pets away a $35.00 value.  My review is below:

A week ago I had the pleasure of receiving a Zoobies Blanket Pet to review.    I knew this would be a good idea for my little one.  We picked  Khimba the Koala & Baby Kai.

My son was so excited to open the box.  The Koala was bigger and better then I thought it would be.   I love how the blanket can zip away from the pillow.   The blanket is huge at roughly 44″x 34″ as you can see from the pictures below.

It is 100% Polyester and easy to clean.  You can wash the outer pouch/pillow in a bag made for delicates or spot wash.

The blanket is nice and cuddly and did not take my son long to fall asleep.  We can take this anywhere with us as it comes in handy and easier then toting a separate blanket, pillow, toys etc.  The pillow makes a great toy especially with the baby Koala.   It is so fun my 2 year old hogs it from my son.  It seems I am going to have to get another one.  If my 1 year old starts I might have to get 2 more pets.  I don’t mind as this is a great product for any age a parent would be proud to have in their home.

Be sure to fill out the Rafflecopter below to be able to have a chance to win a Zoobies Blanket Pet for your own.  Also enter the other blogs in the hop. You will find them below.

Review & Giveaway Phix Energy Drink via Mom Select

Thanks to Mom Select I was able to try the Phix Energy drinks. They have 3 flavors to choose from Citron, Teaberry and Tropic. Once the package arrived I made the Teaberry to try the next morning. I have to admit I did not care for the Teaberry. The taste for me was a bit weak. My oldest son tried it and he didn’t like it either, but my 2 year old loved it. Now I do love the Tropical flavor and the Citron they are not too strong or too weak.

I am a diabetic and always have to watch what I eat or drink. The good think about Phix Energy drink is made with chromium which helps balance out the high and low sugar levels. Not to mention the benefits of Vitamin C.

They have other products you can look at. Be sure to enter the giveaway using the Rafflecopter below.

Phix Energy is on Facebook and Twitter.

I received the free product as part of a promotional program with Phix and MomSelect.

Review Ceiling Tiles

I received the Faux Tin Ceiling Tile to review for Decorative Ceiling Tiles.  I don’t have a drop ceiling , but thought about hanging this on the wall or placing pictures on it.  There are a range of ideas with this.  I love the brownish copper look of this particular tile.

They have so many drop ceiling tiles to choose from.  Tin Ceiling tiles, Faux tin, Styrofoam, Faux Leather, and they even have photo backdrops.  So many projects you can do be it  your ceiling or crafts to spruce up a room.

Here is an example I grabbed from the website of the photo backdrops. I never heard of this or seen anything like this. Pretty neat idea.

I was supposed to receive a foam tile, but that did not arrive.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Remember, it’s all about the books!

About Stay Tuned: What happens when a #1 news team becomes the top story instead of reporting it? For TV producer Melissa Moore, crisis management comes with the job. From employee disputes to her high-maintenance boss, there’s not much she hasn’t seen or can’t handle. But no one—including Melissa—expects a fistfight during the ten o’clock news. When sexy-but-crazy Alyssa Andrews lands a punch on her co-anchor’s face, Melissa jumps on set to help. She’s determined that WSGA’s reputation won’t be destroyed on her watch. Both anchors are fired and Melissa agrees to fill in—but not before polishing her look from haircut to heels. While the new Melissa wows WSGA viewers, her personal life starts fraying at the edges. Melissa’s husband is away more than he’s home, leaving cryptic Post-it notes in his wake. Her mother’s antics spiral out of control at the nursing home and a stalker decides Melissa is her next target. What happens next? Stay Tuned to find out… Get it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

About the Author: Lauren Clark has been a voracious reader since the age of four and would rather be stranded at the library than on a desert island. In her former life, she worked as an anchor and producer for CBS affiliates in Upstate New York and Alabama. Lauren adores her family, yoga, her new Electra bike, and flavored coffee. She lives near the Florida Gulf Coast. Visit her on her website, Twitter, Facebook, or GoodReads.

Let’s get to know Lauren better through a rousing Q&A…

Did you always want to be a writer?

Yes. For as long as I can remember. Of course, my parents always remind that I also wanted to be an Indian princess named Tiger Lily, but that dream was more short-lived. On a serious note, I do have fond memories of spending my summer days toting stacks of books back and forth from my house to our town’s library. It always seemed like a magical place, with endless stories to get lost in.

You worked as both an anchor and producer after graduate school. How did that influence the writing of Stay Tuned?

So much! It was an accident, really, getting into broadcast journalism. I always thought of myself as a behind the scenes kind of girl, but after my first day on the job, I loved it and stuck with it for the next 6 years. Working in television is never boring. There’s always a story, always the next show. The camaraderie in the newsroom is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It’s like living in a big, loud, mostly happy, very dysfunctional family every day.

What gave you the idea for Stay Tuned?

True story:  A few months before I took my first television job as a part-time health reporter, the two main anchors at one of the local television stations (who were romantically involved) got into a fistfight. They were outside the building, in the station parking lot. Shortly thereafter, they were both fired. In the months that followed, the two of them bantered back and forth in newspaper editorials, threatened lawsuits, and fueled all sorts of crazy retaliation stories. I never forgot about that incident and always thought about what might happen if such a fistfight happened on air, during a newscast. What would happen? How would it be handled? Who would fix this kind of mess?

What did you learn from being on air?

It’s very humbling, really. As a producer, especially, you are in charge of what’s being put out there—the news stories people watch and talk about each day. It’s a big responsibility to get it right. Not just sometimes, but all of the time. There were many sobering days—car accidents, house fires, school shootings—and those stories should be told with sensitivity and care. It’s someone’s son or daughter or parent. Everyone matters.

What was your most memorable experience as an anchor or reporter?

I was on set during 9-11. I remember sitting there with our weatherman and waiting to be cued to go back on air after the commercial. CBS cut in and showed footage from a plane crashing into the Twin Towers. It was surreal and awful. We were all in shock. It didn’t seem possible. All I wanted to do was go home and hug my son.

Was it a difficult decision to leave television?

Yes and no. I loved so many parts of broadcasting. I was able to meet fascinating people – Vice Presidential Candidate Geraldine Ferraro, then-New York Attorney General Eliott Spitzer among many others. I adored the people I worked with, especially the folks behind the scenes. I was also fortunate enough to win several AP awards for anchoring and reporting.

On the flip side, I worked crazy hours (2 am – 10 am) and, as is typical in the industry, I received very little vacation time. I anchored every holiday (Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, you name it) and wasn’t able to spend much time with my young son. After more than six years, I “retired” from TV news. It was then that I really started to get serious about writing fiction.

How long did it take to write Stay Tuned?

About five years, all said and done. I wrote several other novels before that—and those manuscripts will never see the light of day! When I began Stay Tuned, I had just given birth to my second son, so my writing time was very limited. After putting it away for several years, I picked it back up about 12 months ago, brushed it off, and had an editor-friend look it over. We made some changes, tweaked the story, and fine-tuned the plot. A few months back, I was offered a contract with a small publishing company. Another friend introduced me to the talented and fabulous Emlyn Chand at Novel Publicity, who helped guide me through the entire publishing process. It’s been a wonderful journey!

What’s next? A sequel or a stand-alone novel?

Dancing Naked in Dixie is next (stand alone title) and I’m so excited to share that it’s been selected as a finalist for the 2011 Chick Lit Writers “Get Your Stiletto in the Door” Contest (Winner will be announced December 20, 2011).

Dancing Naked follows the story of a talented but scattered travel magazine writer who returns from overseas only to find out she’s on the verge of getting fired. To save her job, she reluctantly accepts an assignment in the Deep South. She’ll be writing an article about Eufaula, Alabama’s annual Pilgrimage event, which is a long-standing spring tour of antebellum mansions (the location is featured in the Reese Witherspoon’s movie, Sweet Home Alabama). Upon arriving in Eufaula, Julia falls in love with the area, its cast of charming characters, and her handsome tour guide. When she discovers that a developer has big plans to buy up many of the historic homes and turn the area into a tourist site, it’s up to Julia to save the day.

What is your writing schedule like?

With two growing, active boys and a busy husband, finding time to write is like looking for a missing Lego piece in a houseful of toys (Moms should appreciate that!) I often get up very early and write while everyone else is asleep or go to the lovely campus of our local university and shut myself in a study room. I love it there because I have to shut off my phone and I don’t have the password for an internet connection! No distractions! Of course, I do frequent two or three local coffee shops and draw inspiration from my daily dose of caffeine and good friends!

Who are your favorite writers? Favorite books?

Gosh, there are so many! My all-time favorites include Emily Giffin, Sophie Kinsella, Jodi Picoult, Alice Hoffman, Jennifer Weiner, Chris Bohjalian, John Grisham, Amanda Eyre Ward, and Lisa See. I also love Lisa Scottoline, Janet Evanovich, and James Patterson. Favorite books include: Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees, Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper, and Stellaluna by Janell Cannon (this is a children’s book that I’ve read over and over to my two boys).

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Read. A lot. Write. A lot. Revise. A lot. I’m not joking.

Anyone can write. Writing well is different. It takes focus and tenacity and determination. I’ve heard Stephen King quoted as saying, “The first million words are practice. Malcolm Gladwell, in Outliers, says, “It takes 10,000 hours of purposeful practice to become expert at anything.” Just to be clear, at 4 hours a day (28 hours a week), that’s 7 years. I’m not quoting the experts to scare anyone or be a harbinger of doom. It’s the truth.

Pick up a copy of Stephen King’s On Writing. It’s brilliant and so true and funny in so many sections. If you’re serious about becoming an author, learn as much as you can. Read blogs and books about the craft, network with other writers, or go to a writer’s conference. Above all, write!

Eden Loves Blogger’s Program

I have had the pleasure of working with Eden Fantasys.   It is not just a sex community.  They have a lot of offer.  One thing they do offer is being a blogger for Eden.  They have several programs that you can join.

What I like about Eden?  I like the fact you don’t have to always review adult toys.  You can check bath gels, lotions, candles, and massage products.  There are enough products they can keep you busy.   When and if you join you will have a coördinator and they will give a some things to choose from each time.  If you want to check something specific let them know.

  • Product Reviews:  You can try one product a month that Eden will send you.   All you have to do in your post is have 2 links linking back to Eden Fantasys.
  • If you would rather be an affiliate, they have this as well.  You can earn 20% back on sales, open your own store or even make sales online.  You have an option of going through Commission Junction or through Eden themselves.
  • Banner & Text Ads allow you to place tasteful banners on your blog and earn money that way.  They even offer getting paid via paypal.
  • The last one I want to talk about, is the one I like and take part in with Eden.  It’s called the Sponsored Posts.  Here you write 2 positive post about Eden and you can get a Gift card to Edens ranging from $25.00 to $50.00.  You can use it on anything at their site.  They have Eden Cooks where you can find recipes, forums, Eden Cafe, and even Eden Community clubs.  I enjoy getting the gift cards I can use myself, give to a friend, giveaway on the blog etc.

Like I said before if you are worried you can always review “safe at Work” products and or run ad’s etc.  There is a range of possibilities to choose from.  Why not give it a try.  I still have a family blog and can do this as well.    Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed.

Review Wounded Heroes Book One: Kill Shot by Anne Patrick

Former combat medic Kory Wagner has been in four war zones, served three tours in Iraq, survived countless firefights, RPG’s, IED’s and even a helicopter crash. Now she’s home and out of the Army for good and someone is trying to kill her in her own backyard. Just as disturbing is the handsome sheriff who’s on the case.

Sheriff Sean Harding doesn’t quite know what to think of the decorated veteran that managed to outsmart an entire search party. What bothers him more is the body of a PI, whom she hired, was found dead in a building she owns. And Kory isn’t being very cooperative with helping him find the answers as to why someone would kill her sister and want her dead. Will he be able to keep her alive along enough to discover the truth?

My thoughts:

I have to say I might be a bit bias, but I have loved all of Anne’s book that I have read so far. When Anne contacted me about her newest book of course I said yes as the blurb sounded interesting.

Kory Wagner has come home after retiring from the Army. After several years and 3 tours through Iraq she thought the time had come to get out. Kory has seen too much distraction and heartache. She was a combat medic and watch her members of her own platoon get killed. She also made some good friends with the other members she served with. Digger for one is her best friend who always had her back along with practical jokes from the others.

When he sister is killed by a hit and run driver Kory starts to investigate. She was a medic too long and knew the mark Callie had were not from a hit and run driver. She hires a PI that Digger knows and went to meet him at the warehouse her grandfather left her. She gets there too late as there is another person there who shot the PI and was now shooting at her. Kory gets away but not before she gets the key to a post office box the PI had.

Sheriff Sean Harding is on the scene after a woman had called 911 about the shooting. He starts finding out more about the woman who called in. Kory now has him trying to keep her safe from the killer and help figure out what really happened to Callie.

As soon as I started reading the book I was sucked into Kory’s life. She suffers from PTS (Post Traumatic Syndrome). Sean tries to help as much as he can as she opens up a bit each time. I guessing who was after Kory up till the end when the person responsible for the death and trying to kill her is revealed. The characters are well written and work well together. Anne does a great job again of keeping us guessing. This is a must read it has romance and suspense.
